　　我的爺爺年近六旬，兩鬢斑白，戴著一副眼鏡。爺爺的英語特別好，周圍的人都很羨慕他，可誰能知道他學英語付出了多少心血呢？

　　爺爺特別關心國家大事，自從中國加入世貿組織，中國人學英語的積極性空前高漲。正好社區里辦了個英語補習班，爺爺便去報了名，他把這個秘密告訴了我，還叫我別跟別人說。我哈哈大笑說：“您學英語笑死人了�！睜敔攨s說：“一年后，咱們就比誰的`英語好，怎么樣？”我爽快地說：“好！”但晚餐時，我卻公開了這個消息。爸爸、媽媽、奶奶都捧腹大笑，奶奶說：“你呀！你呀！都這把年紀了，還學什么英語，傳出去讓人家笑落大門牙！”媽媽說：“您60多歲了，還有這樣的雄心壯志？”爺爺沉默了一會兒，生氣地說：“我國改革開放30多年來，許多外國人來中國，我外出旅游，碰上外國人，不就可以用英語和外國人交流嗎？”爸爸見爺爺生氣了，就說：“好！您去學吧！”爺爺學英語的勁頭可足啦！每天早上6點前就起床，從練習讀26個字母開始，再讀記詞組……有時把我給吵醒了，我便對爺爺說：“您怎么這么煩……”爺爺說：“你睡吧，我不吵了�！蔽蚁耄耗怀痴l信……早上，我和爺爺一起去買菜，爺爺邊走，邊念著ABC，旁邊的人都望著我們倆笑，我滿臉通紅，就小聲對爺爺說：“您別練了，別人還以為我倆是神經病呢！”爺爺卻毫不在意地說：“怕什么，無所謂。”我只好離爺爺遠一點了。晚上，我和爺爺一起睡，9點了，爺爺一直在讀英語。我夜里起來上廁所時，睜開眼睛，一道刺眼的光向我射來，我一看手表：“呀！12點多了。”我催爺爺睡覺，他拿我沒辦法，只好睡覺了。

　　五六個月過去了，我想知道爺爺的英語學得怎么樣，便偷偷地聽他練習英語，爺爺講的英語前面的我明白，可后面的我卻一點也聽不懂，只好去問他老人家，爺爺笑著對我說：“小子，你的英語不如我哩！”一年多過去了，爺爺的英語，讓我沒話好說了。

　　Jiaozi is my favourite food. Since childhood I haw learned how to make it. There are five steps.

　　First you make the dough by mixing water into the flour. The container shculd be big enough lest the flour and water will overflow. Press the dough with your hands till it is not sticky. When the dough is ready, leave it there for use later, then go on to make the fillings.

　　The second step is to mince the meat, mushrooms and shnmps till they are mixed in a paste. Add some spice such as ginger and onion and stir them evenly.

　　The third step is to make the wrappings. Roll the dough with a round stick into small round pieces of wrappings, each two inches in diameter.

　　The fourth step is to put the filling in the middle of a wrapping. Then press the wrapping tight and a jiaozi is ready. When you have made enough Jiaozi, the next step is to boil them.

　　That is the last step. Put a pot of water on the stove. When the water is boiling, put the Jiaozi one by one into the water and cover the pot. When steam comes out, add more cold water and when it boils again add cold water a second time. When you see the Jiaozi floating in boiling water, you can put them in bowls or plates, get the chopsticks and be ready to eat.

　　餃子是我喜歡的食物。從童年起我就學會了包餃子，共有5個步驟。

　　第1步，先用水和面，和面盆要大些，以免水和面溢出。用手揉面團，直到不粘手為止。和好面以后，將做餃餡。

　　第2步，剁肉餡，將蘑菇和蝦米攪拌成糊狀，放入調味品如姜、蔥，并把餡攪勻。

　　第3步，做餃皮。用搟面杖搟出一張張直徑為兩英寸的`圓餃皮。

　　第4步，把餡放入餃皮中，捏緊餃皮，一個餃子就做成了。餃子包夠了，下一步就是煮餃子。

　　煮餃子是最后的一步，鍋中放上水，擱在爐灶上燒，水開時，一個一個地把餃子放入開水中，蓋上鍋蓋。水冒氣時，要加些冷水;水開時，再加第2次冷水。當餃子漂浮上來時，盛入碗中，準備好碗筷，即可食用。

　　“大聲跟我讀——A”鏡頭緩緩拉近，明亮的燈光下一個小姑娘正興致勃勃地當著小老師，告訴你吧，那個老師就是我，至于學生是誰呢？哈，賣個關子，讓我慢慢道來。

　　最近我發現媽媽的英語個別發音很不標準，我心中不禁萌發出一個念頭—搞個速成培訓班教媽媽學英語。我左哄右騙，死拉硬纏，終于把媽媽這個學生給逼上了梁山，于是我的“teacth”生涯就開始了。

　　一復習鞏固

　　根據我的教學大綱，決定先幫媽媽復習鞏固一下英文字母。我讓媽媽先背一遍字母歌，不背不知道，一聽嚇一跳，媽媽有好幾個字母發音大走樣，我只好讓媽媽按照我的要求把那些字母每個讀30遍。開始媽媽很虛心，可到后來就不耐煩了說：“我那么聰明只要讀三遍就好了，哪用讀那么多遍呀？”看來媽媽還真是死鴨子—嘴硬，我得改變策略，硬的不行來軟的，我陪著笑臉說：“媽媽，熟能生巧，業精于勤，你讀得不錯，如果能鞏固鞏固，就更好了。”這招還真管用，服軟不服硬的媽媽又認真學了起來，不久字母就搞定了。

　　二單詞訓練

　　學完字母，當然是學單詞啦！我先教媽媽最簡單的，我本想看媽媽的.好戲，沒曾想媽媽又快又標準地“吐”出這幾個單詞，嗯，看來媽媽的基礎還不差，這幾個單詞還難不倒她嗎！我壞笑著決定給媽媽增加一點難度，果然不出我所料，我教的這幾個單詞，媽媽都沒學過，發音就更別提多走樣了。我反復糾正，可媽媽就是我行我素，正當我苦思冥想著如何糾正時，瞧見媽媽偷偷摸摸地在本子上寫著什么，我很奇怪，趁媽媽不注意之時，一把搶過本子一看，差點笑掉大牙，原來媽媽把“waterbbottle”寫成了“我偷抱頭”，英譯中了，我看了把肚子都笑疼了，我邊學邊把本子還給媽媽，媽用這個笨辦法搞定了不少短語和單詞呢！

　　三完美考核

　　眼看我對媽媽的培訓就快告一段落了，我決定給媽媽來一次出其不意的考試。一天中午，我把媽媽叫到客廳，開始考試，這一考媽媽就露出了廬山真面目，她回答的牛頭不對馬嘴。唉！姜雖然是老的辣，但還是要認真呀！我甩下一句話：“三心二意，一事無成，一定要認真復習。”以后只要媽媽有空，就總瞧見媽媽在復習，功夫不負有心人，有一天，媽媽來接我，我見機連忙又考起媽媽，媽媽一愣，然后流利地回答起來，聽得出來，那些單詞短語媽媽也是花了心思的。

　　我教會了媽媽學英語，我的教學生涯也告一段落了，接下來我又要為我的速成培訓班物色新學生了。

　　With SARS gradually passing its peak, more and more people take off their gauze masks. They feel released and have more freedom to breathe in fresh air. However, a certain number of people have restored their bad habit and start to spit everywhere. Now and then, whether in the street, or on the bus, or in city gardens, we will see some people, the fine ladies and gentilemen, spitting without feeling a bit ashamed as shown in the picture. When shown the" NO SPITTING !sign, they just turn a blind eye to it. Still worse, people around have to be on guard against the sudden attack of ＇spit

　　shot" from the spitters.

　　Spitting is a terrible habit. For one thing, it is-entirely uncivilized. The world has entered the 21st century and human civilization has reached a more advanced stage.Why can＇t those people remove this ugly habit? Is it because they think the earth is a gigantic spittoon? For another thing, spitting does great harm to public health. According to chemical laboratory test, one sputum contains thousands upon thousands of germs and SARS viruses if the spitter is a SARS Sufferer. As was reported, the Beijing Municipal Government once mobilized an army of a thousand sanitation workers to clean out the mess in Tian An Men Square.

　　For people to get rid of this uncivilized behaviour, we suggest local authorities strengthen education by publicizing the harmfulness of spitting, and at the same time, enforce the law of punishment.

　　Finally, we, citizens of the earth, must he self-disciplined, love our Mother Earth and don＇t dirty her.
