T:Very good. Today we're going to learn Lesson 9 (Bb: Lesson 9), a dialogue between Mr Lee and Dr Yang. Mr Lee is asked to meet Dr Yang at the airport.
What does he do for Dr Yang?
(Teacher plays the video for Ss. After the ideo is over, teacher asks one student to answer the question. )
T: Who can answer the question? Li Ping, please.
S1:Mr Lee meets Dr Yang at the airport. He helps Dr Yang carries the boxes and takes him to the hotel.
T:That's right. Now open your books at Page 13. Look at the dialogue and lisen to the tape. Pay attention to your stress and intonation.

T: Stop, please. In this dialogue there're some language points. I'll explain them to you. Look at the screen.

(1) It’s a pleasure to do sth．是客套用語(yǔ)，意思是“很高興做……”，相當(dāng)于
It’s nice／great to do sth．
如：It’s a pleasure for me to be invited to speak here．應(yīng)邀在這兒發(fā)言我很榮幸。(2) 短語(yǔ)for pleasure意為：“為取樂(lè)（開心）；為消遣”
I went to New York for pleasure, not on business．我是去紐約玩，不是出差。
(3) It’s my pleasure．意為：“不客氣；不用謝”。常用于回答對(duì)方道謝。
如：-Thank you for your help．-謝謝你幫助我。
-It’s my pleasure．-不用謝。煩
(4) with pleasure，意為：“當(dāng)然可以；非常愿意；樂(lè)意效勞”。
如：-Would you hold this for a moment﹖-With pleasure．
-你可以幫我拿一下這個(gè)嗎？-當(dāng)然可以。
2．I can manage it myself．我自己能扛得動(dòng)。
manage意思是“設(shè)法做到”，與can／could連用，后接動(dòng)詞不定式。
如：The box was heavy but he managed to carry it．
那個(gè)箱子太沉了，但他（還是）設(shè)法搬走了。
比較manage to do與try to do：前者表示“成功地做成了某事（尤指困難的事）”，后者意思是“努力或設(shè)法做某事”，但不一定成功。
He managed to finish his work on time．他設(shè)法按時(shí)完成了工作。
He tried to pass the final exam, but he failed．
他試圖通過(guò)這次期末考試，但失敗了。
3.show引路；引導(dǎo)；帶領(lǐng) show sb. (in)to sp.
1)She showed me into the parlor. 她把我引進(jìn)客廳。
Mr Wilson is leaving now. Will you show him to the door?

2)（常與to連用）說(shuō)明；證明；表明

1．Although we may not realize it, when we talk with others we make ourselves understood not just by words．我們同別人談話時(shí)，并不僅限于用言語(yǔ)讓人明白自己的意思，對(duì)于這一點(diǎn)我們可能并沒(méi)有意識(shí)到。
(1) realize作“意識(shí)到；了解到”解，后接名詞或賓語(yǔ)從句。它還可作“實(shí)現(xiàn)”解。如：鶫e came to realize that he was wrong．他終于認(rèn)識(shí)到自己錯(cuò)了。鶬 didn’t realize that until he told me．直到他告訴我，我才意識(shí)到那一點(diǎn)。鶷oday our hope has been realized at last．今天我們的希望終于實(shí)現(xiàn)了。注意：realize的主語(yǔ)一般是人，否則用被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)，但不用進(jìn)行時(shí)態(tài)。
(2) make oneself understood意思是“讓別人明白自己的意思（聽(tīng)懂自己的話）”。賓補(bǔ)用過(guò)去分詞。還有make oneself heard/ known。如：He spoke in a loud voice in order to make himself heard．他大聲地說(shuō)以便讓別人聽(tīng)到他的話。make后的賓補(bǔ)還可用形容詞、名詞和動(dòng)詞原形。如：
We are working hard to make our country more beautiful．
我們正在努力工作以使我們的國(guó)家更美麗（把我們的國(guó)家建設(shè)得更美麗）。
The boy made a face just to make others laugh.那個(gè)男孩做了個(gè)鬼臉，只是想逗別人笑。
We make him our leader．我們讓他當(dāng)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)。
2.while鶤)特殊用法:
a He is rich while his young brother is poor .( 表對(duì)比, " 而",但語(yǔ)氣沒(méi)有but強(qiáng)烈。)
b While there is life , there is hope . ( 只要)
c While I admit that the problems are difficult , I don't agree that they cannot be solved . ( 盡管)
B ) 從屬連詞, " 與..... 時(shí)候" , 只與延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞連用.

3．But not all the body language means the same thing in different countries．但是，并非所有的體勢(shì)語(yǔ)在不同的國(guó)家都表達(dá)相同的意思。
not all…表示部分否定。not與all, every, both, each, always和often連用，表示“并非全部；并非每個(gè)人；并非每件事；并非總是”等。如：
All is not gold that glitters（＝Not all is gold that glitters．）．
發(fā)光的并非都是金子。
Not every man can do it well．并非每個(gè)人都能把這件事做好。
英語(yǔ)中表示全部否定時(shí)，常用no, none, nobody, nothing, neither, never等。如：
None of my friends smoke．我的朋友都不吸煙。
He never came to the city．他從未來(lái)過(guò)這個(gè)城市。
4.accept…as/ be accepted as 認(rèn)為……是……， accept 在此是“接受”、“同意”解；as 后面接名詞或v-ing形式。I can’t accept you as my assistant.
Waving one’s arms can be accepted as crying for help.

He received a gift, but he didn’t accept it.
take … to be/as指主觀上 “ 把…… 認(rèn)作為……”. 不管對(duì)
We all take our teacher to be/as our good friend.
You must take English to be /as one of the main subjects you have to learn well.
類似的短語(yǔ)有: regard … as,鷏ook upon … as,鷗hink of … as,鷗reat … as等.
※※“把...當(dāng)(看)作...”的種種表達(dá)
“把……當(dāng)（看）作……”這一說(shuō)法，在英語(yǔ)中可以用許多不同的動(dòng)詞后接as表達(dá)。各個(gè)動(dòng)詞之間常有意義上的細(xì)微差別。現(xiàn)將中學(xué)課本中出現(xiàn)過(guò)的歸納如下。
1)consider．．．a(chǎn)s．．．用得最廣泛，有時(shí)也可以表示經(jīng)過(guò)思考或根據(jù)經(jīng)驗(yàn)而得出結(jié)論。
如：鶷oday，Abraham Lincoln is considered as one of the greatest of all American presidents．今天，亞伯拉罕林肯被認(rèn)為是美國(guó)歷屆總統(tǒng)中最偉大的總統(tǒng)之一。
2)．take．．．a(chǎn)s．．．有“假定”或“假設(shè)”的意思，常表示沒(méi)有充分根據(jù)的看法或做法。如：鶷hey could not understand how settlers took land as their own．他們不明白這些殖民者是怎樣把土地?fù)?jù)為己有的.如強(qiáng)調(diào)“錯(cuò)誤地把……當(dāng)作……”，則用take．．．for／to be．．．表示。如：
I took him for a foreigner．我把他當(dāng)作外國(guó)人了。
You can't take a thief to be an honest man．你不能把小偷當(dāng)作老實(shí)人。另外，mistake．．．for．．．是“錯(cuò)把……當(dāng)作……”的意思。如：鶥ut people still mistake us for each other．但是人們?nèi)匀话盐覀儌z弄混。
3).regard．．．a(chǎn)s．．．也用得很廣泛，在一般情況下可以與consider．．．a(chǎn)s．．．換用；有時(shí)可以表示根據(jù)外表所得出的結(jié)論，有時(shí)所表示的只是個(gè)人的或一種偏袒的意見(jiàn)。如：
The Great Wall is regarded as one of the most interesting places in the world．長(zhǎng)城被認(rèn)為是世界上最有名的名勝之一。
4)．look upon／on．．．a(chǎn)s．．．含義與regard．．．a(chǎn)s．．．相同，但沒(méi)有regard．．．a(chǎn)s．．．用得多。如：
They all look on him as a member of their family．他們都把他看作自家人。
5)．see．．．a(chǎn)s．．．表示根據(jù)個(gè)人的觀察和體會(huì)所得出的結(jié)論，常可與regard．．．a(chǎn)s．．．替換。如：鶰arxism sees all matters as constantly changing．馬克思主義把一切物質(zhì)都看成是經(jīng)常變化的。6)．view．．．a(chǎn)s．．．可與see．．．a(chǎn)s．．．換用，多用于正式語(yǔ)體。如：
They continued to view him as their major adversary．他們繼續(xù)把他看作是主要的對(duì)手。
7)．Think of．．．a(chǎn)s．．．相當(dāng)于consider．．．a(chǎn)s．．．，常表示一種特殊的看法。如：
I used to think of it as“your”hospital， now I think of it as“our”hospital．我過(guò)去總是把它看作是“你們的”醫(yī)院，現(xiàn)在我卻把它看作是“我們的”醫(yī)院。
8)．treat．．．a(chǎn)s．．．指在某種認(rèn)識(shí)基礎(chǔ)上處理或?qū)Υ澄铮攸c(diǎn)在行動(dòng)。一般只見(jiàn)于正式語(yǔ)體中。如：I decided to treat the whole matter as a great joke．
我決定把整個(gè)事情當(dāng)作是開了一個(gè)大玩笑。
9)．keep．．．a(chǎn)s．．．含有“保留”的意思，一般只用于正式文體中。如：
They set up a state of their own， where they would be free to keep Negroes as slaves．
他們建立了自己的國(guó)家，在那里他們隨心所欲地把黑人當(dāng)作奴隸。
10)．have．．．a(chǎn)s．．．常見(jiàn)于非正式文體中。如：
Neither beasts nor birds would have the bat as their friend．
獸類和鳥類都不把蝙蝠當(dāng)作自己的朋友。
11)．recognize．．．a(chǎn)s．．．含有“承認(rèn)”、“公認(rèn)”之意。如：
Even his way of walking down the street and turning a corner could be recognized as his own．甚至他在街上走路和拐角處轉(zhuǎn)彎時(shí)的那種姿態(tài)，都可以認(rèn)為是他獨(dú)有的。
12)．a(chǎn)ccept．．．a(chǎn)s．．．含有“認(rèn)為……是……”之意，as后跟名詞或 V-ing形式。如：
His explanation can not be accepted as being satisfactory．他的解釋是不能令人滿意的。13)．think．．．a(chǎn)s（to be）．．．含有“認(rèn)為……是……”之意。如：
Money was also thought to be important．金錢也被認(rèn)為是重要的。注：在“consider ／think．．．a(chǎn)s ／to be．．．”這類表“看法”、“判斷”或者“心里感覺(jué)”等意思的句子里，as（to be）也可以省略。※※
5.Not…but…conj.phr. “不是……而是……”，
連接兩個(gè)并列成分表示意思上的轉(zhuǎn)折，或定前者，肯定后者。
They need not money but labours.( object)
He is not a teacher but a doctor.(predicative)
Not the students but the teacher is hoping to go there.(鄰近原則)
有類似用法的短語(yǔ)有：not only…but also…; either… or …; neither … nor …

6.take…for example 意思是 “以……為例. 比方說(shuō)”.常用于闡明一件事的開頭.

【問(wèn)】本句的custom為何不宜改為habit？
【答】因?yàn)榫渲械腸ustom指社會(huì)約定俗成的習(xí)慣。一般來(lái)說(shuō)，指?jìng)�(gè)人行為因長(zhǎng)期重復(fù)而逐漸養(yǎng)成的“習(xí)慣”，用habit比用custom好；指社會(huì)、國(guó)家、集體等多年來(lái)形成的且具有不成文法律約束力的固定習(xí)俗，應(yīng)用custom。例如：
It is her habit to watch TV after supper every day．她習(xí)慣每天晚飯后看電視。
It is the custom for the Chinese to take off their shoes when they get into a hall．進(jìn)入門廳脫掉鞋子是中國(guó)人的習(xí)慣。
So many countries，so many customs．有多少國(guó)家就有多少習(xí)俗。
Stop bitting your nails．It's a bad habit．不要再咬指甲了，那是個(gè)壞習(xí)慣。

［透視］“with＋復(fù)合賓語(yǔ)”結(jié)構(gòu)在句中作伴隨狀語(yǔ)或定語(yǔ)，難點(diǎn)在于：該復(fù)合賓語(yǔ)結(jié)構(gòu)的識(shí)別以及非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞作賓補(bǔ)的區(qū)別。作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)時(shí)，不定式強(qiáng)調(diào)將來(lái)的動(dòng)作；過(guò)去分詞強(qiáng)調(diào)賓語(yǔ)與賓補(bǔ)之間的被動(dòng)關(guān)系；現(xiàn)在分詞則強(qiáng)調(diào)賓語(yǔ)與賓補(bǔ)之間的主動(dòng)關(guān)系；形容詞、副詞、介詞短語(yǔ)多表示賓語(yǔ)所處狀況。
請(qǐng)看NMET2000高考題：_____ the production up by 60％，the company has had another excellent year． A．As鶥．For C．With D．Through這道題的正確答案是C。
句中的“With ＋賓語(yǔ)＋賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)”結(jié)構(gòu)作狀語(yǔ)，表原因。全句的意思是：由于生產(chǎn)增長(zhǎng)了60％，這家公司又迎來(lái)了一個(gè)豐收年。
“with ＋復(fù)合賓語(yǔ)”結(jié)構(gòu)中的賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)通常由介詞短語(yǔ)、現(xiàn)在分詞、過(guò)去分詞、不定式、形容詞、副詞或名詞充當(dāng)。它在中學(xué)英語(yǔ)課本中多次出現(xiàn)，現(xiàn)將其構(gòu)成與句法作用歸納如下：
1)． with ＋名詞（代詞）＋介詞短語(yǔ)
He sat there thinking, with his chin on his hand． 他手托下巴，坐在那兒沉思。
The old man stood there, with his back against the wall．
那位老人背倚著墻站在那里。
Mary was sitting near the fire, with her back towards the door．
