定語從句是學生解題的難點，下面就定語從句的難點進行歸納總結，從而讓學生深刻地領悟理解定語從句，進而掌握解題技巧。
1. 先判斷先行詞是人還是物。
2. 確定關系代詞或關系副詞代替先行詞在定語從句中充當何種句子成分。
3. 還原定語從句，檢驗先行詞在定語從句充當的成分。
在處理綜合試卷的過程中，遇到這樣的一道題：
He didn’t put the things ____ they belonged, for＿＿ reason he got his punishment.（D）

學生答錯率較高。“他沒有把那些東西放回到他們本該在(原來)的地方，為此他受到了懲罰。” 第一空語境分析，東西應放在什么地方。Where引導狀語從句時意為“在…的地方”；結構分析，belong 為不及物動詞，常用固定搭配belong to。They belonged句從結構上說選出的詞只能用來做狀語；如句子為they belonged to則要補足賓語。第二空reason 前的限定詞為that/this，故應用which來連接相當于and for this/that reason。
類似的用法有in which case、during which time相當于and in that/this case、 during that time。

一、Such…that引導的狀語從句與such…as引導的定語從句的區別：
Such…that引導的狀語從句，that引導的是一個完整的句子；而such…as引導的定語從句，as在定語從句中充當句子成分。如：His plan was such a good one _______ we all agreed to accept.中，應用as，因為we all agreed to accept 缺少賓語，完整的句子為we all agreed to accept it.如為 His plan was such a good one _______ we all agreed to accept it,則應用that, 因為we all agreed to accept it 是一個完整的句子。

二、一些特殊的先行詞如situation, point, case, activity，scene及period, festival, occasion等要注意具體情況具體分析。這些詞基本上都是表示時間、地點的詞，做具體題目時，要判斷他們在定語從句充當的成分來決定關聯詞。主語、賓語和表語用that/which，狀語用where/when/介詞+which。如：

第一句定語從句可還原為：we must insist on the point,所以先行詞point在定語從句中作賓語，故用that或省略。第二句定語從句可還原為：at the point both sides will sit down together and talk, 故先行詞point在定語從句中作狀語，所以關系詞用where/介詞+which。

三、先行詞為地點、時間及reason和way的定語從句。
表示時間、地點先行詞以及先行詞為reason、way在定語從句中作狀語時，相應的用: 表示時間的先行詞：when/介詞+which；表示地點的先行詞：where/介詞+which；reason為先行詞：why/for which/that/…/; way為先行詞：in which/that/…/但解題關鍵要判斷先行詞在定語從句中作狀語還是作主語、賓語和表語。作狀語，則適用上面得語法規則，如作主語、賓語和表語，則仍需用that/which（作賓語that/which可省略）。

(1). 介詞+which/whom

She’s got three lucky pens, two of which she never uses.
(4). 代詞+of +which/whom

介詞的選擇根據介詞與定語從句中動詞的搭配關系；根據介詞與前面的名詞先行詞的搭配關系；同時考慮與動詞和名詞的搭配關系。

五、As 與which引導的非限制定語從句的區別。
(1). As 引導的非限制性定語從句可以放在主句之前或之后，一般用逗號與主句隔開；而which引導的非限制性定語從句只能放在主句之后。
(2). As引導的非限制性定語從句常與主句意義一致，常譯為“正如”、“就像”；which引導的非限制性定語從句常與主句有因果關系。
(3). As 常與一些詞連用形成的定語從句，已形成了固定的說法，如：

八、名詞fact、hope、idea、news、problem、suggestion等后面跟同位語從句與定語從句的區別。
定語從句是形容詞從句，其作用相當于一個形容詞，是用來修飾前面的名詞或代詞的；同位語從句是名詞從句，其作用相當于一個名詞，是對前面的名詞作進一步解釋的。定語從句的引導詞在從句中充當一定的成分，可作主語、賓語、狀語等；而同位語從句中的引導詞在從句只起連接作用，不作任何句子成分。同位語從句與其所修飾的名詞之間是一種同位關系，二者之間存在邏輯上的系表關系，可用“主+系+表”結構來表示。例如：
